What kind of range do you have? In all likelihood, your Gas range is the most essential appliance in your home. Without it, you wouldn’t be able to whip up eggs and bacon, or grandpa’s “secret” shrimp gumbo recipe that has a way of bringing the whole family together at the dinner table.

The Different Components of Gas Ranges
Can't tell a burner from a grate? Gas vs. electric? We can help. Note that Gas kitchen ranges can differ greatly. Broadly, though, these are the key parts of a kitchen stove that you want to pay attention to when shopping for this major kitchen appliance.
- Burners: Most kitchen ranges, Gas ones included, have at least four burners on the stove. Burners are the “hotspots” where you can set your pans to heat up for frying and your pots for boiling and simmering! Burners come in many sizes, but most stovetops include a small, two medium, and one large burner, so you can use one that fits your cooking utensils and purposes best. Each burner can be set to low-to-high temperatures depending on what you’re doing — melting or boiling. In some Gas ranges, burners can even be combined for when you’re cooking with longer pans and griddles.
- Burner covers: Are you cooking with gas or electricity? Burner covers will look different depending on the stove and fuel type. Electric ranges can have smooth tops, with the burner sitting under a layer of ceramic-glass. These are attractive ranges with easy to clean tops! Crumbs, drips, and spills are easy to wipe up once the range top has cooled. Electric ranges can also have traditional coil tops.
- Grate: A grate sits on top of the range to evenly distribute heat to the pan. Gas ranges have grates. Electric smooth-top ranges have ceramic-glass cooking surfaces that don't look like your typical grate at all, but they work to distribute heat in much the same way.
- Controls: All ranges have controls, including Gas ranges. The controls might be knobs, buttons, or dials. They're usually located in two places: above the stovetop and between the stovetop and oven.
Renting Gas Ranges
When you’re in the market for a new kitchen range, whether you want to buy or rent, there are a few more things you want to keep in mind. This is key if you're range shopping online and can’t see the appliances in person.
First off, note that a range and a cooktop are two different things. A range is sometimes called a stove. It’s one appliance that contains burners and an oven, rolled into one! It’s super useful if you like to bake snickerdoodles and make pasta at the same time! Everyone adores sweet treats and Italian-inspired dishes.
You may also want to consider the range color, name-brand, and how easy the inside and outside is to clean. Which appliance is right for your kitchen setup? If you’re on the fence, reach out. The team at Rent-A-Center would love to help you.
